Camila Janniger, MD

Camila Krysicka Janniger, M.D., a physician, writer, academic and researcher, is Clinical Professor of Dermatology and the Chief of Geriatric Dermatology at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She is also the Co-Director of the New Jersey Center for Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. Prof. Janniger is an internationally recognized expert in skin health, with a special interest in tumor research. She is an author of over 150 full articles in the indexed medical literature and more than 40 book chapters. Prof. Janniger’s contributions include original descriptions of subtypes of cutaneous neoplasms.

Prof. Janniger was born in Sopot, Poland on July 18, 1959. Her mother, Felicja Kurnatowska, was a combatant in the Warsaw Uprising, thereafter held at Bergen-Belsen and Stalag VI-C Oberlangen. Her father Stanisław Krysicki served in General Stanislaw Maczek’s Motorized Cavalry Brigade and later was appointed as a Judge in Scotland.

Prof. Janniger matriculated into the Medical University of Warsaw in 1978. She participated in athletics as a swimmer on the university's team and excelled academically, receiving multiple Dean's Prizes. A member of the opposition in communist Poland, Prof. Janniger cofounded the Independent Students' Association (NZS), the student arm of Solidarity, at the Medical University of Warsaw. Prof. Janniger attained her medical degree in 1984.

Following postgraduate training at the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Prof. Janniger completed a residency in dermatology at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1990, serving as chief resident during her final year. A diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, she has been board-certified in dermatology since 1990.

Prof. Janniger has collaborated with institutions of higher learning all over the world and is the recipient of numerous prestigious accolades, including  election to honorary membership in the Kuwait Society of Dermatology, Jordanian Society for Dermatology and Venereology, Iraqi Society of Dermatology and Venereology, and the Vietnamese Society of Dermatology. Prof. Janniger has served as a consultant to the Qatar National Research Fund and the Ministry of Health of Kuwait.

Prof. Janniger is Managing Editor of Medscape Dermatology as well as founding Section Editor and an Editor of Special Issues for Cutis. Prof. Janniger serves on the editorial boards of many scientific journals, including SKINmed, Dermatology and Cosmetics, Dermatologia Kliniczna (Clinical Dermatology), Mikologia Lekarska (Medical Mycology), Przegląd Dermatologiczny (Dermatology Review), Dermatología Cosmética, Médica y Quirúrgica (Cosmetic, Medical and Surgical Dermatology), Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology, and the Serbian Journal of Dermatology.

Prof. Janniger is active in professional societies. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, and a Charter Member of Sigma Xi: The Scientific Research Honor Society (Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Chapter). Prof. Janniger has been named a "Top Doctor" by Castle Connolly Medical and a "Super Doctor" by Key Professional Media. Additionally, Prof. Janniger was featured in Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare in its inaugural edition.
